Committee for Helping Others (CHO)

CHO was organized in 1969 by a group of concerned churches and individuals In the Dunn Loring / Merrifield / Oakton / Vienna communities to provide simple, loving charity to those in need of goods and services which they are unable to provide for themselves or obtain from governmental social service organizations.  Membership in CHO is open to all churches, synagogues, civic and service organizations, and individuals interested in improving the quality of life for all in the community.  While no boundary lines are firmly established, efforts are made to avoid overlapping services with those provided by similar neighboring service organizations.

CHO provides:
Emergency family services
Food Pantry
Clothes Closet
Meals on Wheels

Our Lady of Good Counsel assistance:
First Sunday of the Month Food Collection
Clothes collection any time
October drive for funds for CHO Christmas Dinners
Drivers to take people to their doctor’s appointments
Drivers for furniture pickups

The parish conducts an annual collection which is used to obtain food certificates for those in need.  In addition, on Wednesdays during the month of October, OLGC staffs the CHO Clothes Closet at 133 Park St., Vienna, VA.  Volunteers sort donated items and/or assist clients.  Spanish-speaking volunteers are especially welcome.  Contact Connie Appelrouth.

Volunteers are always needed to help deliver the collections and organize services.  For more information contact:
