The CYO Tennis Team is a Fall Sport and is open for boys and girls of all abilities in grades 4-8. The Tennis Team is part of the NVJCYO League The goal of the program has always been to base the practices and align teams according to the player's skills and abilities. More than anything we encourage fun and sportsmanship.
Assessments: Even if your student has already been in CYO Tennis, each interested player must attend ONE of these assessments so we can place the students into an appropriate team based on age, skills, and ability. The assessment will take about 30 minutes and therefore you do not need to plan on being there the full two hours. We will do our best to create teams and begin practices the week of September 5th.
Please send an email to Lisa Stock-Reusch, letting us know your son's or daughter's name and which assessment they will be attending. This will help us plan the evenings and also give us an idea of how many players will be returning from last year.
ASSESSMENT #1 Tuesday, August 29th at Marshall High School tennis courts.
- 4th & 5th graders from 4:30-5:30pm
- 6th-8th graders from 5:30-6:30pm
ASSESSMENT #2 Thursday, August 31st at Hunter Mill Swim & Racquet tennis court.
- 6th-8th graders from 4:30-5:30pm
- 4th & 5th graders from 5:30-6:30pm
The cost of our program is $60.00 per player.
Matches Begin in mid September - Will generally occur each Sunday through the playoffs (tentatively scheduled for early November). Matches have historically been scheduled on Sundays at either 1 or 3 PM, and they are generally at Fairfax County High Schools.
Practices: We encourage 1-2 practices a week, typically for 60-75 minutes. And if a player misses a practice, that is completely OK. We want to encourage and expose the kids to tennis as much as they are interested. We found this works good for those players that are also playing other fall sports. We hope to begin practices the week of September 5th.
Levels: Players are placed on appropriate teams according to experience. Because players are grouped by experience level, (i.e. beginners vs. beginners) teams are mixed (boys and girls). We try to place about 9 or 10 players on each team, knowing that we need at least 5 players for each match, leading to a forfeit if we have less than 5.
- Beginner (never played Tennis before)
- Advanced Beginner (played before and can bring a serve in the service field)
- Intermediate and Advanced (played USTA, or Club and can serve and rally). Should be able to land a regulation serve in the correct service box most of the time and should know how to keep score.
