Meet Dr. Becerra, Marymount University President
Join fellow parishioners for our Annual Communion Breakfast hosted by the Women of OLGC on Sunday, October 27. During this annual event, parishioners from all walks of life come together to break bread, enjoy a delicious breakfast, and listen to a great speaker. This year, we're thrilled to welcome Dr. Irma Becerra, President, Marymount University. Join us to hear from Dr. Becerra, where she will speak about her academic career journey and the vision she's creating at Marymount University. She was recently named one of Washington Business Journal's Women Who Mean Business.
A Cuban-born American, Dr. Becerra immigrated to the United States with her parents when she was an infant, living in Puerto Rico through high school. Those formative experiences ignited her mind, imbuing her with a passion for knowledge along with a deep-seated belief that "no one can take away your education." She earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Miami and went on to become the first woman to earn a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Florida International University.
