Engaged 100+ volunteers, served 400 meals & added $1,000 to general parish fund
OLGC kicked off summer on Friday, June 1, 2018 by hosting its first annual Summer Kickoff. OLGC's Pastor, Father Matt Hillyard, supported and volunteered at the event, as did the Oblates. OLGC parishioners and the community came together to enjoy chicken tenders, fried shrimp and oysters, tostones (fried plantains), rice and beans, topped off with root beer floats and much, much more!
Earlier in the evening there was a Battle of the Boards corn-hole competition with Kevin O'Brien and John Loesch partnering up to win and claim the 1st place title. Jim Briody and Michael Dykes came in second, while Justin and Stephanie Osterhage claimed the third slot. $225 was raised to benefit local nonprofit Food for Others' Power Pack program. Later in the evening, a family friendly movie was played on an outdoor screen.
Similar to the Fish Fry events earlier in the year, a diverse set of parishioners contributed to the event that ranged in age and walk of life, including:
• Boys Scouts
• CCF Students
• Fil/Am Community Ministry
• Girl Scouts
• Hispanic Group
• Knights of Columbus
• Men's Club
• OLGC School students and staff
• Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
• Parish Staff
• Single Seniors
• Teen Youth Group
• Young Adults
• Women of OLGC
On Thursday evening, May 31, 30 parishioners, students, family, and friends came together to prepare the shrimp, chicken as well as several homemade sauces, such as Honey Mustard, Chipotle Barbeque and Sweet & Sour.
Additionally, many local businesses contributed to the success this year, including:
• Caboose Brewery,
• Kelley's Tree Service, and
• Norm's Beer and Wine.
Save the date of March 8, 2019 as we get ready to kickoff our 3rd annual Fish Fry!
