Volunteering with Children

Background Check & Training Requirements for Employees & Adults
Who Volunteer or Work with Children

In accordance with Diocesan policy, all adult volunteers are required to fully comply with Diocesan child protection requirements. Full compliance requires that all adult volunteers who volunteer in school (on the playground, at school activities and events, and field trips), with CCF or Youth Ministry must complete and clear the following 4-part Volunteer Certification Process:

All adult volunteers who work with children are required to fully comply with Diocesan child protection requirements.  This includes volunteers in school, sports, Scouts, CCF, and Youth Ministry.

The 4-step certification process includes the following:

  1. Complete this Our Lady of Good Counsel form so we are aware of your interest and can track the progress of your background checks: www.olgcva.org/outreach/serve/volunteer-children/form
  2. Complete the Office of Child Protection and CPS background check questionnaire: www.arlingtondiocese.org/Child-Protection
  3. You will be contacted by Our Lady of Good Counsel via mail to sign and return your CPS Form, which will be generated from the information you submit in step 2.  If there are any problems with the information on your CPS Form, you will be contacted via email by OLGC's Child Protection Liaison.
  4. Once your completed form has been signed by the Child Protection Liaison, you will receive an email prompting you to register for the mandatory in-person, 4-hour VIRTUS training session (Protecting God's Children for Adults) at a Catholic parish in Northern Virginia.  Follow the directions given in that email to register for a session within the 45-day timeframe.

Please contact Christine Moan, Child Protection Liaison, at cmoan@olgcva.org with any questions.

Thank you for your volunteer service to our Parish & School!
