At OLGC Parish, preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion is a two-year process that ordinarily takes place in Grades 1 and 2 through the Elementary CCF or OLGC School for those who have been baptized Catholic. The children from CCF and OLGC School come together for their First Communion Retreat and to celebrate the sacraments together.

If your child has not been baptized Catholic and is older than 7 years old, and you are interested in learning more about preparation for the sacraments, please email ocia@olgcva.org.

What materials are used in Grade 2? Students in the Elementary CCF program are prepared for these sacraments using Call to Celebrate: Reconciliation and Call to Celebrate: Eucharist from Our Sunday Visitor Curriculum (OSV). As determined by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), these texts have been found to be in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church as of April 4, 2011.

In Grade 1, remote catechesis for First Reconciliation and First Communion takes place, followed by immediate/proximate catechesis for First Reconciliation and First Communion in Grade 2.

Children/youth in grades 3-8 who have been baptized Catholic and need to be prepared for and receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion but otherwise have not missed much time in faith formation/religious education are enrolled in the Emmaus Formation Program.

When does Emmaus Formation meet? Sundays from 1:30pm - 3:00pm in the St. Joseph Center

What materials are used for the Emmaus Formation Program? Students are prepared for these sacraments using Call to Celebrate: Reconciliation and Eucharist (Intermediate) from Our Sunday Visitor Curriculum. As determined by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), this text has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church as of April 4, 2011.
